The Detroit Tigers are going to the postseason. The Indians are right behind them.
I know that the Tigers made it all the way to the World Series through the Wild Card in 2006. But there's been so many years of mediocre baseball being played in our neck of the woods, that it seemed like it would never turn around.
In fact, we were all kind of waiting on the other shoe to drop in regards to the Indians. Hell, we thought it had when the Tigers swept the tribe back in August. But Cleveland refused to go home. Hell, even last night, with Giambi's 2 run walkoff homer, you got the sense that this was a team of destiny. Maybe not a World Series kind of destiny, but at least an "overcome a decade of futility" destiny. Even if they lose the wild card game, it still feels good for them to break through.
Meanwhile, Tiger fans are literally angry that they haven't clinched yet. "GRAH STILL DON'T OWN THE DIVISION YET EVEN THOUGH WE ONLY HAVE ONE GAME LEFT WHAT IS THIS BLACK MAGIC." Calm yourself, Tiggers. You're going to October. I know that this is the third year in a row, so it's all old hat, but give me a break. Be a little happy.
