New Child Support Regs Await Governor's Signature

(Bowling Green, OH) New child support guidelines are headed to the governor for his signature.

For the first time in a quarter-century, Ohio's child support system is getting an overhaul-- the Ohio Senate recently passing a bill sponsored by state representative Theresa Gavarone to update both economic tables and healthcare coverage guidelines to better calculate child support orders and outline parental responsibilities under the Affordable Care Act.

The bill also implements an adjustment to parenting time to take into account the amount of time a non-custodial parent can spend with their kids.

With one in three Ohio kids in the child support system, the Wood County Republican says it was past time to update laws to ensure more reliable and consistent payments.
