TPD to Start Basketball Teen Mentoring Program

(Toledo, OH) Friday Night Lights may take on a whole new meaning soon in Toledo-- with basketball.

Toledo Police are getting a $25,000 state grant to start a Friday Night Hoops program for teenage males at the Police Athletic League site.

The Ohio Department of Youth Services grant would fund personnel costs and athletic equipment for the indoor program aimed at at-risk 14-to-17 year-old males.

The goal is to provide coaching and mentoring to steer up to 40 teens away from negative social activities on Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. The grant needs Toledo city council approval before the program can get started.
