Toledo Police to Unveil Violent Crime Intiatives

(Toledo, OH) Toledo's top police brass will tout their latest gun violence reduction efforts today.

Toledo's mayor will join Police Chief George Kral  at a noontime news conference to update the public on current and future efforts to reduce violent crime in the region.

Those initiatives include 38 new cadets set to graduate the police academy on Friday, four new investigators being added to the detective bureau this week, as well as beefing up the SWAT unit and gang task force with more officers.

More police overtime will be granted to patrols and targeted enforcement efforts in neighborhoods known for gun violence through data-driven policing. Crime analysts and community policing also will play a bigger role.

Over the past two years, police say overall shootings are down 17 percent.
