Domestic Violence Report Paints Grim Ohio Picture

(Columbus, OH) A grim picture of domestic violence is surfacing in Ohio.

There were 115 domestic violence deaths statewide over a one-year period that ended June 30th, a double-digit increase over the same period a year before.

62 women and 53 men died in 83 total cases, according to the statistics released this week by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. 72 perpetrators were men and 11 were women.

About a third of cases involved a suicide. A child witnessed the fatal domestic violence episode in nearly one-fourth of the cases. 87 of the incidents involved a gun. This is the second year the state domestic violence network released the report.
