House Explodes After Domestic Dispute

(Swanton, OH) Airport Highway is back open along the Fulton-Lucas County line, as investigators continue to piece together the bizarre events from last night that led to a house explosion.

First responders first shut down Airport Highway during a domestic dispute-turned-standoff Wednesday evening, then rescued a women and two children  from the home.

An unidentified man then barricaded himself in the Swan Creek Township house. A SWAT team tried to enter the home, but backed off when they smelled gasoline. Officers then attempted to negotiate the man's surrender when the house exploded, shaking nearby buildings and rattling the windows of homes.

The state fire marshall is investigating the explosion and resulting fire that consumed the home. There also may have been propane tanks on the scene, fueling the blast.
