(Stryker, OH) There could be more inmates headed to the regional jail-- because of the state budget.
The Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio could see more low-level felony offenders, as the state puts 20-million more dollars toward targeted community alternative programs. The aim is to move inmates from the state prison system to regional jails like CCNO.
Those low-level felony offenders would be enrolled in diversion programs instead of entering the state prison population as a cost-savings measure. Right now, the regional jail is only about three-quarters full, so its empty minimum security beds could be offered to other counties under its diversion programs.
CCNO also is exploring holding inmates for federal marshals.
