Ohio Lawmaker Introduces Automatic Voting Registration Bill

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Voter registration in Ohio could go one step further if a bill by one lawmaker gets enough support.

People who secure a driver's license or state ID card would be automatically registered to vote under State Representative Kathleen Clyde's bill. Clyde is a Democrat from Kent. Camille Wimbush is with the Ohio Voter Rights Coalition, and joined Clyde at the statehouse to introduce it.

"It certainly is more convenient for voters, it's going to lead to more accurate voter rolls for both voters and election officials who struggle in trying to read handwriting," Wimbush says.

Clyde claims a system of data-sharing is already in place in Ohio, which would make her proposal easy to implement.
